This is a good thread. I use OLD Fender rounds on my Hot Rod P (no younger than 4 years old) but I stick with Chromes on my J. I've been debating whether or not to switch to half-rounds on both basses, but I think I'm good with a decent external pre-amp to stay where I'm at with either.

I like the way Daddario XL s age gracefully, and they're also easy on the frets & fingers

I think the D'addario XL Nickel Wounds are the best string out there. They sound great when broken in and hold that tone for a long time. Great strings and you can't beat the price.

I like D'Addario EXL Nickel. They take awhile to sound really good tho.
