Best string manufacturer

Sign in to disble this ad
We always talk about what specific type of string is the best and i wanted to know your opinion on who's the best all around string manufacturer.

I've been trying different sets lately and found that there are some quality inconsistencies in different manufacturers products.

So that's it. plain and simple, all types, gauges etc... aside, who's the best all around string manufacturer???

Sorry man, no simple answer to this question. So many manufacturers, using to many techniques of wrap ratios, materials, philosophies, cores, consistencies, customer service... it all comes down to preference.

With that said, I find myself gravitating toward DR.

+1, you can't argue with quality.

DR is number 1 for me. The only strings that can stand my abuse and still sound fresh and bright for a long time.

D'Addario's one of the largest, if not the largest and as a retailer I can tell you that we almost never see a pack come back due to defective strings, very consistent. Same can be said for Ernie Ball as well.

I'm currently trying out some John Pearse and they seem to be ok for a few sets now.

I think there is some BIG string manufacturers (ex. Daddario and LaBella) who makes strings on license to a lot of other brands/lables.

(i.e some X.... brands, in fact are made by Daddario or LaBella. Good or bad? )

I'm an Ernie Ball man myself but I'm thinking about getting a hold of some Carl Thompson strings and see what I think.

Another vote for D'Addario.

FYI LaBella makes the round-wound strings sold as "Carvin 4011, 5011 and 6011"!

Also, the LaBella "Deep Talkin'" black nylon-covered strings are available at Carvin for a discounted price . . .

Maybe they make Carvin's SS and Flatwounds, too?

I'd have to say DR, D'Addario, GHS, and Rotosound.
It all really boils down to what you like though. If you like Darco's use them.
