Best Strings For 6 String? (Eb)

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased a Schecter Studio 6 (which is fantastic) however - the stock strings have got to go. I usually use Ken Smith Slap Master Ultra Lights - but I decided I try to get some recommendations on other strings.

I play primarily Metal (True Metal) and we are in Eb. I favor a super-light gauage string due to the speed, and tapping I do - but I know some people run into some problems with really light gauge strings on a 6 string.

Is it better to go heavier on the gauge? We are only down a half-step, but I'm using the Bb quite a bit.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

- Zach

So far in detuning a half-step, I've had the most success with Dean Markley Blue Steels. Great strings!

I have always used Di'Addario xl6's on my six string. I have had problems with neck twist with them on my Yamahas, though. If you look at the specs the d string holds about 10 pounds more tension than the rest of the strings. If you tuned down, however, they would work pretty well. Also, on my old warwick I use to use rotosound swing bass 66's. They ate at the brass frets a little, but sounded killer with a lot of growl. Fodera was another I used alot.

I always loved Blue Steels, but have gotten away from them in recent years. Have you considered some MTD's or maybe even DR's?
