Buy Optima Gold strings. Anything less than that, and your tone will suffer greatly, your band will never get booked, you'll get booed on the streets, and you'll die poor and lonely.

Honestly, there's an entire forum dedicated to strings, just read the sticky at the top and you'll find what you want. Note the first line of the stickied thread: "If you're going to ask what kind of strings you should buy, make sure you FIRST look through all the links below, then do a search."
