Best strings for Alternative/Hard Rock?

Sign in to disble this ad
I play a Danelectro 63' reissue bass, and was looking for help on choosing strings.

The bass came with tape wound strings, and they sounded hollow and not agressive enough.

Tried Musicians Gear standard gauge, really liked the, tiny bit too much treble on high sstrings

I have Hartke light strings, and they are really weird, the E string sounds really deep and low, and the rest of the strings are wayyy to trebely for my tastes.

The strings i've bought in the past were usually around 10 bucks, and it is true that you get what you pay for.

What strings would you fellas recommend for an aggressive, growly, deep sound, that can still do bluesy fills, without having the G-string sound like a guitar.

Something nickel, and a heavy gauge. DR or GHS, and roll off your tone a little bit on your amp.

Unfortunately, the G-string is going to sound puny and guitar-like. What's your amp's EQ look like? I personally keep my bass up around 5, my mids at 6, and my treble at 2 or 3.

I keep my bass, low mid, high mids at 5, and my treble at 4.

Edit, Fender Rumble series, largest one.

Does your bass have a pickup switch? Maybe you just need to use a bit more neck pickup. Try the Punch EQ preset on your amp? Maybe turn down your treble & hi mid a little bit more? A bit more overdrive to thicken up the sound? If the scooped EQ button is engaged, turn it off?

I keep my pickup on the middle switch. And i can try to lower the treble and hi mid, and i don't have the scoop on.

Blue Steels all the way man. I put a set on my 4001 a month or 2 ago and they are amazingly fantastic.
