Best strings for G&L L-2500

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a used G&L L2500 and need to put new strings on it. I want to run the strings through the body and don't know what strings will be long enough (so the taper of the strings are not on the fretboard) I would like to use roundwounds but would also like flatwound suggestions. Thanks for your help.

DA XL-170 Superlongs are stock on those. They do a sound good on G&Ls. I have also run TI Flats 36" scale set thru body (365s).

I have had good luck with Superalloys on G&Ls but I am not sure if they will go thru body. You don't want to run a 2500 thru bridge because the bridge is only held on with two screws.

Any DR will be long enough as so will Ken Smith Bass Burners or Rock Masters. Another suggestion might be the Fender 8250s (thru body with Taper on E and B) and Sadowsky Blue Nickel Extra Longs.

Use TI's, LaBellas cannot be strung thru the body, they will break.

DR flats can be strung thru the body as well. That's the config on my L2500 right now

I put a set of TI Superalloy 365s on my L-2500 last night, and they're crazy long. I think its probably actually a bad idea to use these strings on this bass (and maybe other 34s). They're so long that the full width string (as opposed to the tapered end) ends up on the tuning pegs of the B and E Strings. I'd imagine that the 345s are plenty long strung through the body. I'm sure someone else can chime in about that. Lots of people love TI Superalloys on these basses.

Did you not have this issue with the 365 flats?

Hey guys...I just recently picked up a USA L2500 as well, and was wondering if anyone uses Elixir strings with their G&L? I have several sets of Exilir (Xtra longs) and will put a set on my L2500, but just wanted some feeback...

Thanks,

Gerry
