Wink Best Strings For Lakland Basses - Rock/Pop/R&B Sounds

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking for some thoughts on the best strings to use on my new Lakland bass.

I have tried many strings before on different basses, however I find different strings are better with different basses. I know everyone has different ideas of what is good.. just looking for some thoughts and why.

thanks

Well, I don't make any particular choice based on "genre", but my Laklands really like the Lakland stainless sets and DR Hi-Beams (stainless wrap on a round core) for me. I've used D'Addario nickles (EXL-165), GHS Boomers, Lakland nickels and stainless, and DR Hi-Beams and Sunbeams (nickle wrap on round cores) for my 494s and stick with either the Lakland stainless or the DR Hi-Beams.

The 55-01 has only had the Lakland stainless and a DR stainless set. I like the DR better there, but that's because I got a set WITHOUT a tapered B string and like that MUCH better than the tapered ones.

+1 on the Sunbeams! Although I have a set of R. Cocco nickel roundwounds on my Joe Osborn 5 that I am really digging. The only difference is, you can't string the R. Cocco's through the bridge.

I use ProSteels (extra-long scale) on my freeted 55-01

I use Half-rounds (again, extra-long scale) on my fretless.

Once the Prosteels calm down, they give me a nice punchy tone that sounds great with everything I've played.

I like a dark woody sound and use Lakland nickels.
