best strings for schecter c4 in drop tuning?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to replace the strings on this bass. I play in what I guess you would call drop c sharp? We tune to drop d then tune half of step lower. Anyway, im wanting to attain a deeper sound. Not sure what's on the bass now. I own a Schecter Damien 4 and love the tone of that. It has the factory strings on it now.

Basically, best string for that tuning and getting a nice deep rich tone.

For Drop C, I usually try for 120 85 65 45 or a .124 Drop Tuned Tension set from Circle K. You should be fine with gauges around that size, depends on how tight/floppy you like your strings. Some folks would use 115 85 65 45.

If you have the factory strings tuned down to drop C# I expect they are fairly floppy.

I recommend the 'Drop Tune Standard' .118, .124 or .130 sets (medium light, medium and medium heavy) from Circle K Strings. Those sets are designed to have equal tension on each string in a drop tuning, so the lowest strings won't be floppier than the higher strings.

Or build a set from single strings with similar gauges to those sets.

Or ... a 5 string set with a .125 and discard the E, that will get you close-ish to equal tension on each string.
