I am wondering (since I broke my strings playing slap earlier this week) what strings are best for slap?
I was using nickle round wounds but I was wondering what others have experienced.
And if you want me to specify what sort of slap I play; like Maximum the Hormone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. |

What bass are you using? Can you give an example (maybe a youtube video) with the sound you're looking to achieve?
Many bassists prefer steel strings for slap because they are generally brighter and have a slight scooped tone to them.

I was using the EB hybrid slinkies, and I really want a sound like the guy off Maximum the Hormone. I guess I can post a bass cover of one of their songs for a good sound that I like: Maximum The Hormone - Bikini, Sports, Ponchin [Bass cover with TABS] - YouTube
I have a feeling most sound with slap is made by the amp not the strings? |

so depends on the bass to me |

| | | | I generally use Ken Smith or MTD strings both of which are Stainless Steel. I am heavy handed so I always get medium gauge. I hardly ever break a string

I have GHS Pressurewounds on my P-bass right now. They don't sound too bad. Not as bright as the others, but they definitely sound good.

And those would be the ones you like the feel and sound of the most. Regardless of what anyone says or recommends.
And stay away from flat, half round, and nylon strings. |
