Unhappy Best strings for a warm tone.

The stock strings on my Laguna finally sound dead
So I'm in the market for new strings, only problem is I don't know enough to make a good judgment. I'm looking for a warm, punchy tone with a nice "mwahh" to it. Something good for close to the bridge jazz/blues playing, but still good for some funky slapping.
I was thinking roundwounds?? But I don't know.

My DR Black Beauties sound great on my Geddy. Great warm fingerstyle sound, it can also get a great slap sound as well.

DR Sunbeam Nickels would fit your need perfectly.

WONDERFUL for string for all the attributes you mentioned. The feel great too.

If you are more into warmer fingerstyle I'd go with flatwounds..

If you want both half-rounds..

Black strings look cool on a Geddy Lee bass too. I had those, and liked them. I think you can get a warm sound without changing string type. Experiment with your amp settings, volume, and tone knobs. I haven't been playing long enough to really know and have only used roundwounds, but I'm trying La Bella 760FM flatwounds on a P bass I just assembled. Never used them before, so the jury's still out. Doesn't hurt to try new things, keeps it fresh.

I have experimented with the preamp on both the bass and my amps head and nothing, I get a very good slap tone and a good chunky tone, but nothing else.
