Best Strings for Yamaha BEX4 Hollowbody

I"ve tried Elixirs, which worked pretty well, but I had to cut the treble (on bass AND amp) to about -5. Now I've got some Thomastik jazz flats, and they make the bass sound too "thumpy) -- the midrange is too pronounced, and the high end is still very pronounced. I'd like to find a happy medium ...

If the T.I.s are still new, they can sound like that. Play the hell out of them for a week and see what happens.

I had the good luck to acquire a used but like-new BEX4 last November (I'm a longtime guitarist finally getting serious about bass). I think it has a set of Chromes on it---blue silk at both ends, Gold-Red-Purple-Green (EADG) for the ball ends. I like Chromes on one of my guitars. But the bass version is well...I dunno. Can other BEX4 owners offer some advice for other flatwounds to try? I just put GHS pressurewounds on the Yamaha BB N4II I also got (2 weeks ago) and like them a lot. Thanks for the help. This forum is a great place.
