Blisters!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi I dont post much but I wanted to ask this to see if anyone else experiences this I think its strange.

I just put flats on my 55-02 and I got blisters, really bad ones like i used to get when I was 15! (I've been playing 35 years) I have been using roundwound strings forever, in particular most recently Elixers which I have on my BTB they are really coarse I get a litlle finger wear but no blisters!
has anyone else had this happen to them I am thinking its the smooth friction of the flats

I had the same problem when I first tried flats. I think they have more friction, too. Oh well, blisters do turn into calluses.

Same thing happened to me. It was a weird blister too because of the calluses. Mine took about two weeks to go away.

If the flats have significantly higher tension than your previous strings, that could be part of the problem.

I use TI flats on most of my basses and never have any blistering problems with them. Some people claim that flats have a lot of friction problems. I haven't experienced that, at least with the TIs. I do use GHS Fast Fret when I remember to. It does cut down on friction, keeps strings clean and doesn't gunk up the strings the way some string cleaners do. It may help a bit.

I was out of shape from not playing about a year ago due to relocating to a different city. When I got back into playing I got sore fingers on both hands but no blisters. I developed calluses pretty quickly and the pain went away.
