One of the few bass strings I've had break. +1 on the clank.

I used to use them, but have since moved on to DR Hi-Beams.

I stopped using them because of the clank, and that they tended to die so quickly on me. Ernie Ball Slinkys even live four times longer for me than the Blue Steels.

DR's are my preferred string by far.

I'm in the same boat, ive broken a low E and low A. When I told someone about it they didnt beleive me. Broke right at the bridge so it may have been a rough bridge but ive never had another set break on me after I stopped using them.

Blue Steels die quickly, and I've had a few dead ones right outta the box.

Hi-Beams ftw!

I like them. I've got my bass set up to where I get more of a trebly crunch rather than any clank. But I'm open minded and plan on trying out new brands.

Tried a set and didn't like them. Love TI Flats and DR Lo Riders. YMMV

O.o after 3 months and good and broken in, they don't clank, they aren't borken, and I don't consider them dead by any means. Although I'm not married to them (DR Hi-Beams all the way) they're good strings for me. Don't know how all you fools are breaking em .

I think all the people who complain about breaking them here are just a small portion of those who play the strings and hated em, while those who liked em are too busy making music and too happy to check their internet.

really loved the sound but they died on me and switched to a set of Black Beauties that were laying around. I plan to try them again on the bass that I had them on. Just remember really liking them at first.

I tried them back in the mid 90's on my Washburn 6 string, and while I dug 'em, haven't revisited them 'til last year when I put them on my fretted 'Ray 5. I put a fresh set on this spring. Still going strong. Check out Cooler Days Ahead & Tom Jones Boots on my MySpace to hear 'em tracked direct thru an Earthworks pre. I've kept 'em clean and dry and they still sound great to my ears today.

I love the sound and the feel of them. I never had a set die on me. The killer was they kept breaking very easily on with my trem bridge. Switched back to EB Slinkies that last quite a bit longer with the trem but if Blue Steels lasted longer I would be using them.

I've been using Blue Steels for over 18 years , I love em. as far as the clank , you can EQ that out , or you might just be running too much Mid-Range.

Have you tried the nickel version of the Blue Steels? I haven't seen much discussion about them, but I'm lovin' them on my Jack Casady.

+1 on the break + 2 on the clank. I used to use them becuase they sounded great on my jazz, but then both myself and my friend started having problems with them breaking and inconsistancies on bass as well as guitar.... really bad when you break a brand new set of strings on your guitar. Anyway after that we pretty much said no more to the blue steels.
