Boiling Strings to Restore Tone?

A friend of mine is telling me that if I boil my strings for approx 10-20 mins it'll clean em up and restore the tone to almost "like new" sound...

To me this sounds absurd, anyone do this or is it just downright stupid?

Well I just tried it.... worked.... boiled em for 20 mins and they're soundin like new...

Hey wait, what did you boil them in? Water, alcohol...? I think I will do that for the extra strings I have laying around, just so they aren't dirty as hell anymore for if I just break one...
