Bongo + flats. soundclip needed

Sign in to disble this ad
I have searched and although there are some clips of Bongo strung with flats, I haven't found one that is similar to style I play.
Is there anyone playing alternative/rock'n'roll or anything similar with Bongo with flats and has a video/audio?? Just a pumping, supporting bass lines, preferably not solo?

Currently, I find Bongo a little anemic compared to my Fender Jazz (strung with Chromes) and G&L L2000 strung with DR Stainless steel Lo-Riders.
Bongo has the best playability out of bunch, but it's lacking in "character" (to me at least) and I think flats might help..
For what it's worth, I'm more Fender-sound kind of guy, and I know that Bongo is a different kind of beast, but I would really like to finally get some love for Bongo's sound because ergonomically, it is IT.

Thanks in advance!

Goran

hmmmmmm, I'm surprised your finding the Bongo anemic. Have you tried fiddling with the eq? There are a lot of tones in that thing. I suggest boosting all of the eq knobs slightly (1/8th of a turn past center) using both pickups 50/50 and playing between the pickups.

I use EB flats which I prefer to Chromes (although they are quite nice). Many like TI Jazz flats but I've not tried them.

Sorry, no soundclips for ya. Best of luck

anemic?

Compared to a passive jazz a Bongo is a steroid beast on a rampage! I have well worn Chromes on mine and leave the EQ flat and still hear myself prominent in the mix no matter that the guitar with effects and the keys and the drums are all loud and present plus vocalists. I turn down my volume in sheepish apology but the band says turn back up! They like it!
Mines a HH by the way. Check your batteries?

I have unloaded the Bongo in the meantime, I just couldn't get to love it's sound.

@mntngrown:
It's HS!
Yes, I know it sound unbelievable, but that's how Bongo sounds top my ears. Much more sound comes from electronics than wood, and that doesn't work for the band I intended to use it with. Cutting trough was never the problem, it just didn't have fullness in sound that my G&L has.
Both batteries were fresh, everything was fully functional.

@mozarwasagenius:
I always run it with both pickups on full (I do it with pretty much every bass I own - I like sound of both pickups on), but it just wasn't it. No matter how I EQ-ed it, it was the "Bongo" sound.

Since this is the second Musicman have I owned (had a Stingray previously), I came to realize I don't like "Musicman" sound - yes, I can say that they have their signature sound, just with different flavors.

Thanks for the reply to both of you!
