Bought D'addario Chromes but...

Sign in to disble this ad
They didn't fit. They're labeled as Long Scale, but the .132 didn't even reach the nut before I ran out of steel. I paid $40+ & it sucks. The shoppe I bought them from us contacting their string dealer. The local shoppe is A-Ok but idk about the dealer.

Anybody else have this problem? I think they made the Chromes in Super Long, but I can't really locate them.

Also, this is my first foray into flatwounds. I got a pair of really clear, articulate Ashdown cabs, & I'm itching to try & get a nice thick, finger style thump. Nice Paul McCartney meets Jamerson kind of thing. Good for indie, soul, or even dub if you have a good synth.

Fitment all depends on your instrument.

Long scale will fit most all 34" scale instruments and some 35" instruments.

If you let us know which instrument you have we can let you know exactly what you need.

But it does sound like you need the super long scales...

I've heard some people complaing that D'addaro strings can sometimes vary in length (especially the low B).

I use Super Long scale on my Dingwall and that has a 37" B string!

I have a Long Scale set on my Geddy Jazz. The G string is too short. The silk starts about 1/8" before the nut. It doesn't affect the sound so I just left it that way.

I have a Long Scale set on my '08 AM Standard P and the strings definitely can't be strung through the body.

The silk should not be like that. I would bring it to your resellers attention.

Also, not sure if it is known but unfortunately there is a lot of "D'Addario" product floating around that is not genuine. They have a webpage dedicated to it:

D'Addario Strings : Play Real

I am not implying that your product is fake, but you can check here...

Gents - our quality control is not perfect but we do our very best to make sure that the specs for all scale lengths are addressed properly. The variables come into play when manufacturers use proprietary bridges or other elements that don't account for the additional length thats required (i.e. string thru the body, etc).

OCAIOBASS - contact me @ don.dawson2@daddario.com and we'll see if we can't help you out with that issue.

And for anyone else that runs into a scale length issue - Jason is right - there is a definite "fake" issue out there. Less so in the US but most definitely internationally and why we created the link that was posted above. Feel free to contact me with any additional concerns.

Boy, that seems like a lot of work for not much reward to counterfeit strings that are pretty inexpensive to begin with. Glad to see you guys being proactive about it, though.
