Bought a set of DR Hi-Beam strings

... and I think I found a new favorite string These strings are awesome... these strings sound amazing and the slap tone from my Jazz is out of this world with these strings on. I used to have D'Addario XL nickels on and these strings win hands down. If you want a stainless steel string, I'd definitely buy these over Rotosounds. I can't stop slapping these strings

DR Hi-Beams and TI Flats are the two most loved strings on this board, I have observed.

DR Hi-Beams it is!! Thats all I have ever used since discovering them about 4 years ago. The only issue I have is local availability of the gauge I use. I like the LR5-40 5 string sets 120-40.
I can check every shop in a 100 mile radius and NOTHING!!!
I always have to order them online which sux because shipping costs etc.
Im starting to thing I should change gauges up 1 step because everybody does carry them.

Yes, DR makes strings in red, blue, black and maybe other colors as well.

DR Hi-Beams are great strings.
Im a fan of hex core strings on account that I am heavey handed. When I have the Hi-Beam itch I go up a guage to compensate. All-in-All, they are one of the best strings out there.

All I'v eused for a long time. I especially like them after they've been played a while. I'm not a fan of "that new string" sound, but I love the broken-in sound and that sound lasts for quite a while with DR's.

Agreed. Hi- beams are my fav stainless strings. I've been using more nickle plated lately however. Check the sun beams out sometime too.

How do they stack up again the Marcus Miller signature DR Fat beams? (Currently my favourite by far)

My experience is that the Hi-beams have a scooped sound, where the fat beams have a bit more mids and especially low mids. I find that Hi-beams seem to work great on mid-orientated basses like jazz basses. To me they sound the best after a week or so...they get a bit more full when broken-in.

Hmmm I may try some on my fiver, which currently has some D'adarios on em that makes my bass sound like a piano, not a bass :-)

The D'Addario ProSteels are a good Alt to DR's. They last long and are tight, bright, and punchy clear.
