So, I'm really upset about dropping $25 on a set of new strings today. They were long scale, which I thought would be long enough, but it is apparently an inch too short. The strings are D'Addario XL's (roundwound nickel or whatever it's called), and they're long scale, but they're only 34". My BTB is a 35" scale, and I suspect its bridge design takes up a little more space. Anyways, the winding becomes thinner just before the nut, so it won't fit.
If anybody's in my area and interested in swapping for a set of these strings, I need 5 string Super long scale strings. You can have my D'Addarios for them. Not been opened.
Anyways, while I'm going to have to buy some new strings, can someone suggest a set that have some growl and snap to them? I've heard good things about Blue Steels, as well as the D'addarios I was supposed to put on today. I currently use Ernie Ball Slinkies, but am looking for something with more bite.

They're not terribly expensive either

But I'm in high school have no summer job, and just spent $25 of my $40 on strings that don't fit my bass. I miss being able to buy guitar strings for $7 a pack...

I thought they might be a good choice for you because they are generally a little less expensive than some other strings (like DR for example which is what I use) and I've had good luck with them myself.
That, and I know they come in super long scale, which is what you need.

I haven't done this with Guitar Center, but they do have a very good return policy in my experience. My band drove 150 miles to go do some demoing and our drummer forgot his cymbals. We went to a Guitar Center, bought a Zildjian cymbal pack, told them we would be using them for a session and returning them and they were fine with it. We brought the pack back at the end of the day, no problems.
I only mention this because a lot of places have the same return policy for strings as they do for cymbals. You could always call them to find out their policy (which is what we did). |

Called Guitar Center today, and he told me as long as they're not put on the bass already, he can take them back. I did kind of put the B string on, but I only slid it into the saddle before I noticed it was too short.
I'll try and get some Pro Steels in exchange for them.

Put some Fat Flats on that thing, hike it up and get to playing. Catch a bus, hitch a ride, get it done!!! How you gonna get to a gig if you can't even get to a store?? Guitar Players!!!!! Doc. |

Doc. | I'll be honest, I had no clue where most of that came from.
Did explain what happened, they will exchange them.
I live an hour away, am a teenager to young to have a license, my dad works, and my mom's sick. It's hard to beg rides from friends when it's an hour both ways. Buses are non existent in the rural area I live.
I bought Ernie Ball guitar strings for $7 a pack, lasted 3 or 4 months at a time. Bought a 10 pack for $50, am still giving them out to guitarist friends a year later. Great buy.
I do play guitar as well. Classical. That's what I'm going to school for. But bass is my favorite. Why would you try to drive a fellow bassist away? Great job adding a useless post that adds nothing to the conversation.
I hope you're a troll, I really do.
