A few folks have expressed interest in preferring new string tone. I, on the other hand, despise new string sound and prefer more dead round tones. I have 2 new sets of Carvin 5011 5-string Electric Bass 5011 Nickel plated medium gauge round wounds (Gauge sizes: .040, .060, .080, .100, .128)
You must have a TB feedback of at least 5 (100% positive). Your bass must have an equivalent length to a Carvin XB75 (long scale). I will mail you the strings, and you mail them back (wiped with a little string cleaner) after 2-4 weeks of playing. I have 2 new sets, but need to hold on to one for spares.. First PM meeting the above criteria (and including name and home address) gets the first set. When I get that back, will send out the second set. We both cover our own postage for shipping.
Any takers?

You want some lackey to install your strings on their bass, break them in, then un-install them, and mail them back to you.
Wow, I have never so regretted not being a Supporting Member so I could take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

But you are right about the supporting member part. Unfair of me. So strike that. Just a minimum of 5 positive feedback rating.

If I were you, I'd string them up, pull on them to stretch them, then grab some crisco and run it over the strings. Let it sit for an hour and then wipe it off with string cleaner.

Any takers? | You need to talk to John, man. I like new strings but I'm going broke!

First attach the strings, over tune and detune them a couple of times. Then prepare a mixture of oils and salt, dip the strings in, take em out and let the goo work it's magic for a couple of days.
There has actually been a topic about this before, where some guy had created a very thorough way of getting rid of the new string zing.

That seems like as much hassel to me
The zing does not last that long, besides, in the not too distant future you'll be looking to change the strings because of a build up of said oils and salt from your fingers.

However, you really should give some flats a try, or even some half rounds. I've also used baby wipes on rounds with good results of getting dead sounding strings.
Otherwise, you could just string up the bass and have it spend the day near some kids. |

Halfrounds or flats would give you 10 times better tone than dead rounds (which to my ear is as bad as it ever gets), but YMMV of course.

if you don't like the idea, that's fine, but you guys are giving him flack for nothing. if someone has a bass similar to his, they will get a new set of strings for a few weeks, and then mail them off. That's not bad.

1) Tried bbq sauce, crisco and other potions. Either killed the strings or didn't do much.
2) Tried flats and halfrounds. Didn't have the overtones that rounds give me.
But thanks anyway for the tips.
