Bright and long-lasting?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need a string that is bright and trebbly, with well rounded bass and mids, but lasts a long time. I need a suggestion of what strings to buy. I'd prefer nickel, but anything is ok. Try to suggest something in a reasonablle budget of 20-50$ US. Thank you to anyone who responds.

Stainless will almost always stay brighter longer than nickel.

I recommend Dean Markley SR2000s. Bright, but a strong bottom.

I've tried both the DR Lo-Riders, and the SR200's, and hated both. They sounded muffled and dead, even with the tone all the way up. And the E-string on both of them broke after a week. But i will try the Hibeams. Just one question: I play really hard, not hard enough to break strings, but usually enough for the to go dead very fast. I usually wipe them down once a week. Will this affect the longevity of the brightness?

If you like nickel, Sunbeams may be your ticket.

Will wiping them down only once a week affect how long they stay bright? Uh, yeah...

I make a point to wash my hands before I play - every time I play. And when I'm playing regularly, I wipe down the strings frequently - usually several times throughout the day.

If you really want to maximize the life of your strings, it's helpful to wipe them thoroughly with a soft cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol (making sure to not spill on the fretboard/fingerboard)...

+1 on the Highbeams.

Also, Elites if you're able to find them locally. Great, long lasting strings. I'm only familiar with SS Elites, for the record.

Try a set of SIT Powerwounds or Rock Brights at least once. The price is right.

Wiping works well, especially if it is with a lint free cloth...

Also when my strings sound "dead" to me...which doesn't take long... when that zing is gone they are dead...I am lucky if strings last over a week... I don't trash em... I have an easy release bridge, so I don't have to get the tunning peg end of the string all bent up...just pull them off and coil them around a funnel and let them sit in a closed bucket of Denatured alcohol (like non watered down rubbing alcohol, though high percent rubbing alcohol -99%- works well too) after 12-24 hours i pull em out on the funnel and set them up on a cubbord in the air to dry...next morning i pop them on and they come out new with that bright zing.... Eventually frets eat into the strings... but i've been using the same three pairs of strings in rotation for probably a little under a year...

Big money saver and keeps 'em nice and bright =D

All good suggestions so far. The Hi-Beams are one of my favorites for 4 string. Just never really dug their low B.

I would also suggest Prosteels.
