Well, Im thinking it's time for new strings. I love my rotosounds, but its been about a year, and I want to try somtihng new. I like strings that keep there bright, tinny sound for a very long time. any suggestions?

Another excellent choice is Dean Markley SR2000's.
I use both.
You got a year out of RotoSounds? EVERY SINGLE SET OF ROTO SOUNDS I PURCHASED IN MY EARLY YEARS HAD AN "OUT-OF-THE-PACK" DEAD STRING...no exceptions. I swore off of them because of that. I tried alot of strings, then I came across DR's and Dean Markleys.
BTW, if you are a hammer-slapper that sweats it up alot, there isn't anything made that will stand up to that for any period of time.... |

I'm going to try a pkg of DR's on your recommendation, MR & Jazzin'.
Any opinions on Pro Steels? I see them advertised a lot on the TalkBass banner - I'm starting to become hypnotized!

I still have the same stick from 2 yrs ago. amazinginly bright and nice, added punch to i think

Being coated, they have a different kind of zing on top than uncoated rounds... this might not be the tone you're looking for. They're also expensive. But they sound brand spankin' new much longer than any uncoated rounds I've tried, D'Addario and DR included. |

The thing bothering me is that I'm used to 35s on a 34" scale, and now I've moved up to a 35" scale, I'm wondering if Hi Beam 40s are going to be too stiff to slap quickly? In fact, I may even have to use 45s since it's all I can find in a 5-string set.
Has anyone found this to be an issue? Is there anything similar I can use?
Also, do the Hi-Beams come with a tapered B?

| | | | Another huge +1 for DR's. I use Hi Beams, and they stay bright and crisp MUCH longer than any other SS roundwound I've ever run across. They have a very smooth feel also, and if you believe the marketing materials, they are easier on frets than other SS roundwounds. |

my strings, pretty much whatever brand, nickle, steel, coated with go dead within a week max. then they really die out bad after 2 weeks. just the sweat i was born with
makes it very expensive if you want the new string sound...
