Brite Flats

Ok, I really don't know about these strings. They have a tight E and A string but I'm not really impressed with the D and G string. I'm beginning to understand the two bass approach, one with rounds and one with flats. To me, these strings try to split the difference but really don't pull it off. I'm really missing rounds at this point so until I can afford a second bass, I guess I'm going back to rounds... any suggestions??

I have the Brite Flats on my P, and I know exactly what you mean. The E and A strings sound like good regular flats, but the D and G have lots of "twang," and almost sound like they're a different string type. Rolling off the treble balances them out somewhat, and they do break in, but even after awhile I still hear the difference. I have found they record nicely with the treble rolled off a bit.

For the real flatwound experience, try the GHS Precision Flats. The D and G sound really thick, and it's delicious old school tone all around. Or, if you want something closer to rounds, try D'Addario Chromes.

All half-rounds including brite flats that I tried felt sticky and sounded like dead rounds. To me, they are the worst of both worlds.

I've noticed the stickiness and it does feel weird. It has lessened with playing but is still there. From what I've read, it seems to be present in all half wounds, but I wonder if it applys to pressurewounds as well? And I noticed the difference in tone between the strings. It just seems that rounds or flats just have a better feel and sound to them. I guess there really is no compromise when it comes to sound. Ah, the quest goes on!

And when the time comes for flats, I definitely intend to try the GHS Precision flats, a really good sounding flat string that thumps!
