Fellas,

I broke my B string today. I have no idea who makes the strings....Roundwounds with red silk wrapping at the tuning pegs.
Its a used bass with used strings.....any ideas? Finally get a 5 stringer and I break the damn B string on the first day!

+1 to this site. Great people.

If your strings were that old to have you B break, you need to change the whole set, not just the B.

The only brand I can think of with red silk are Rotosound Swing 66.

GHS Boomers have red silk...

It's not impossible to break a low B. Happened to me before, but I was playing ocean front every day and could smell the salt in the air...

I've never broken a string before, but I've been told that the B and E strings go first. Makes sense to me as the thicker strings are probably less flexible.

pretty unusual to break the B but it happens. Glad you didn't get wapped in the face. Broke a high C tuning once in a very very cold club. Otherwise never.

Ken Smith sells singles and I'm sure many others do as well but I would just go ahead a get a new set.

I break strings from time to time. Far from impossible. Never on a five string but I only have one, and I don't play it all that often.

At a gig a couple of months ago, I broke a bottom E on the first verse of the first song.
