Sign in to disble this ad
I've had a set of flatwound La Bellas on my precision bass for a few months now and today I was playing bass and my G string just broke right at the bridge. What I'm wondering is if anyone out there has any had trouble with La Bellas or if I did something wrong while replacing my strings. Help pwwweeease

What Precision model are you using? If it is an American Standard, or other thru-body stringed instrument, Labella's do not recommend using their strings on these instruments because of the string angle at the bridge.

Just check the saddle for any burrs that might cause the string to bind before you restring it.

Had the same issue with the E string on my P-Bass. Came unraveled at the bridge. They sent me a replacement within a week.

A couple of months ago I switched from the original stock roundwounds on my Yamaha to Deep Talking LaBella flats. Since I knew there would be a difference in string tension, I had a professional tech person change the strings and then do a setup. The A string broke at the ball while the techie was tightening the string. LaBella replaced the string for free.

By the way, I love the tone of the LaBella flats. Strings are nice and smooth with no fret noise and the string tension is just a little tighter than the rounds were.

My only issue is the new strings are so smooth for the fingers of my plucking hand that they sometimes slip off the strings too easily for a "good pluck"; I suspect this is a technique issue for me that I will need to work through. Anyone else experience this?

Hi,

I've only broken one La Bella flatwound in 50 years of playing and the probable cause was traced to a too sharp angle at the bridge on the string saddle of my Ampeg AMB-1 Scrollhead. I would contact La Bella, they will probably replace it for you. I've been playing La Bella flatwounds for the better part of my playing years. Incidentally, the only other string I've ever broken was a roundwound on a Rickenbacker 4001.

+1

I use LaBella Jamerson, strung thru body on my Fender Precision, for years without problem.
