Sign in to disble this ad
I put some D'Addario Phosphor Bronze acoustic bass strings on my acoustic bass a few weeks back, and they still sound great (bright, warm and full). I was thinking that the next time I restring all my basses I would try them on one of my electric basses as well.
Has anyone tried this before? Are there any problems with these strings not working with passive pickups (I don’t know why there would be but…)? Would it be a waste of money for some reason or another?
Thanks

However, the bronze strings don't have nearly as much ferrous metal in them, so thier magnetic signal is a lot lower than nickle, nickle plated steel, or stainless steel strings. Essentially, the only thing the pickups will sense on bronze strings is the steel inner core wire.
So, don't waste your money-

jte | Thanks. I knew there had to be some reason, otherwise at least a few famous players would be doing it. The bronze strings sound very rich on the acoustic bass (richer than nickel or stainless steel). Anyway, I'm not going to waste my money. Thanks again.

I know this shop in England sells them and ship overseas: http://www.astrings.co.uk/index.php/cPath/1_5_24
You can also look in ebay stores. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
