Bum set of chromes?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just built a new bass, put on a new set of D'addario chromes, and the next day noticed a dull buzzing from the A string. Being a new bass, I was troubleshooting the bridge, nut, and tuning peg.

Well, a week later, it's obvious that the outside flat wrap is loose from the core wires. I can move the outer wrap around on the core very easily. Has anyone had this problem?

I have a return authorization and I'm returning them to D'Addario tomorrow.

I had the exact same thing happen with a set of chromes once, the wrap was loose and the string felt as if it was rolling under my fingers when I played , the string had a horrible kind of buzzing and had no attack at all, took the strings off and returned them to the shop were they replaced them , the replacement set was fine

Thanks. That's exactly how I knew it was the string, eventually. It started "rolling" under my finger and got me wondering.
I got a return authorization # and just sent the set back to D'Addario today. I'll update on what they come back with.

I have had great service from D'Addario in the past. They will take care of you.
