Buying new strings soon...

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright. First post. Here we go.

I Have only been playing for a few months, but my beginner bass died, so I bought a new musicman stingray. Which I love. Then I bought some new strings for it. Which I hate. I bought D'addario XL Nickel light gauge. I realize they will need a break in period, but it's been almost 2 weeks, and they still sound very clacky, and metallic. Am I not waiting long enough? If that's just how these strings are, then I'm gonna have to buy new ones. I'm looking for:

Light-medium gauge
Not "clacky" But not so warm that slapping sounds bad.
Not too bright. I like punch, But a warm punch.
Roundwound

Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks.

DR Lo-Riders Nickel? Or the DR Extra-Life coated strings?

I use the DR Black Beauties.. And it sounds (to me anyway) like what you're describing. But it also might be a pickup issue too. My pickups give me a lot of warmth and punch regardless of what strings I use.

eq

Back off on the EQ i.e. run closer to flat and see if that helps. If your amp has a brite switch turn it off. Next time gi with nickel strings I HATE SS strings.
