buying strings-is it as simple as 1 2 3?

i stopped by my local music store, and i was trying out the steve harris precision bass and despite me loathing fender, i really liked the strings, his signature rotosound flatwounds. nice round tone, had a nice feel i decided i'd probably get them for my fretless, at least try em out. from what it sounds, strings are more of a personal kind of thing, and so i was wondering is buying strings as simple as "whatever feels the best, get it" also does anybody know the closest thing to his signature strings would be, without being his signature things, i have another kind of grudge against buying gear that has an artists name on it.

no offense to you're way if thinking, but if you like the strings you should get them. names shouldn't matter if the strings feel better or sound better to you. just my 2 cents, though i know the feeling of gudges against big name companies (don't see why someone should pay $xxx dollars just cause a shirt is "insert brand here"

This is silly. Just get his sig strings if you like them, who cares if his name is on them or not?

I swear, the only that makes less sense to me than buying a piece because it has someone's name on it, is NOT buying a piece a of gear because it has someone's name on it. If it works and sounds the way you want it to, don't worry about it. It isn't even like a signature bass, they are STRINGS!!! It's not the SH actually signs the strings and everyone has to see his sig on your strings. Just get them.

The Roto 77s are essentially the same strings. Different coloured silks and a lower price are (AFAIK) the only differences.
