Buzz on E string only

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted this on the Setup and Repair board and one of the replies was that possibly I need to change strings. Here's what I posted and have any of you had a similar problem?

I have a Peavey T-40 (that's not the problem ) that only has fret buzz on the E string. Here's the last thing I "discovered".

All on the E string only.
A#-played normal, no buzz. If string is bent, it buzzes.
B-played normal, no buzz. If string is bent, it buzzes but not as much as the A#.
C-played normal, BUZZ bad. If string is bent, no buzz.
C#-played normal, Buzz. If string is bent, no buzz.

I also seem to get a clanging while fretting in this area that I don't get in other areas. It's probably my fretting technique but it's only on these frets. Is this a problem with the higher frets somehow? Again, it only buzzes on the E at those frets.

Any ideas? Would a string change maybe help? I bought the bass last fall and have no idea how long the strings have been on. Thanks.

Try doing a set-up, or have someone do one for you. You might need some truss rod adjustments.

You might also have uneven wear on your frets.

sounds to me like your 9th fret is high on the E-side. if you look closely, you might be able to see the fret rising out of the wood. that happened pretty bad on one of my guitars - i glued it and clamped it down. not the best fix but it worked.
