Question C tunning, please help me!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, i have read the FAQ and i didnt find an answer to my problem, i have a regular ibanez ergodyne bass, but i want to tune it as follow from down to high: C G C F wich is two steps down and drop d (in this case drop c) but all the strings, specially the 4th are too loose and they start to hit the frets in the first or second one, and also, in the fifht fret they dont give the note they supposed to, what do i have to do?? i experiment by trying a 5 stings package but the 5th string tuned in C is too tense, and that could dammage the bass.

1et of all, tuning down to CGCF is NOT 2 steps down! It's 2 FRETS down ...or 1 step down.
If you use light guage strings (40-100), try mediums (45-105) . . . or heavys (50-110). Also, it's not uncommon to need a set-up (neck and bridge adjust) with the type of change you're talking about.

GHS makes a Heavy Boomer gauge that is 50-115. I've used it before down 3 half steps and they worked great.
Good luck.
