Yeah, it has a pair of EMG-HZ's in em (soapbars). Even though they are passive they are pretty damn hot.

Did you have to alter the nut on your headstock since you are using a 5 string set?

You have the same electronics that my ESP does then, I definitely suggest you give some DR strings a spin. After playing Fender, Rotosound, D'Addario, and GHS Boomer strings, I think I'm set on the DR's for metal, they cut through really well and have a nice bottom end.

If you bump up string gauges by a lot you do have to alter the nut to fit the strings in, depends on the nut and strings though.

I used to use only DR's on mine, but Elixir Nanowebs are my weapon of choice nowadays.

I use the lightest guage D'Addario XL Nickelwounds out there on my Geddy Lee jazz. I think I'm very much in the minority here though.

guage size

For all of you out there using DR Hi-Beams or Lo-Riders, what kind of guage are you using? Right now I'm Playing Ernie Ball Slinky's which are 50-70-85-105. But the guage choices for the DR's are either 45-65-85-105 or 50-70-90-110, not really sure which direction to go in. Advice?

i play flatwounds but id have to agree that any dr high guages would do it. it depends what you tune to also. if you play in drop C you kinda need hi guages unless you like playing rubber bands.

you cant really try out strings per say so find a bass playewr youd liek to soudn like that plays a spector, not hard to find and see what they have.

short answer:dr's

It's really personal preference. The DR Lowriders I just put on were 45 - 105 (with 130 low B since I play a 5) and they are great. I used to have 40 - 100 (120 low B) and they were fine too, just felt a little lighter than the new ones. It's more of a feel thing. Try the 45-105 and see what you think.

I tried high beams and didn't like them. Not enough string tension for me. I like a stiffer feel
