Can 110-55 handle Eb?

I have a 1987 Fender Power Jazz, will the truss rod or neck handle 110-55 tuned to Eb?

AAbsolutely, I switch between standard and eb tuning on several of my basses strung with 45-100s, the difference in tension is very slight

45-100s? I'm talking about 55-110. Power Slinkys.

Your bass can handle those strings just fine. You may need to adjust the truss rod a little bit to compensate for the thicker gauge and the down-tuning but you'll be just fine.

Would the action have to be only high?

I used the 55-110 (Power slinky Bass) strings , tuned to Db and many other tunings. Plus I constantly change the tuning depending on the song. Never had to adjust the truss rod or anything like that. You don't need to worry about this at all.

Right, but if my lighter gauge strings can handle Eb with no issue, your heavier gauge strings will be even better at it, well at least have a more traditional tension.

I think you could do D or even C# standard with that gauge with no problem at all, Eb will be like nothing.

BassMick isn't asking if 55-110s are appropriate for a half-step drop, he's asking if those strings, albeit not tuned to full tension, will cause neck problems.

I don't have any experience with your bass model, but most any Fender with any adjustment left in the rod should be fine. I don't understand your question about the action having to be high. I wouldn't think that any saddle adjustments would be needed.

I just wanted to know if I can install 55-110 to Eb and yet have slightly low action. I read somewhere if you string a high gauge, the action will be a bit high, and you cannot adjust it.

Thanks for replies.

The action is the same. The strings are slightly thicker that is the only difference. To adjust the action, you turn the screws on the saddle. Why wouldn't you be able to adjust it just because the strings are of a different gauge??????

Action can be set low or high for any tuning and any gauge of strings. It's all about setting your truss rod and saddles properly.
