Can cheap strings create dead spots?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Martin acoustic bass fitted with cheap acoustic strings.
The problem is that when i amplify the bass the 7th fret E on the A string sounds dead.
It seems to sound ok when not amplified.
Could it be my pickup ( a Seymour Duncan Woody Soundhole pickup) or the strings or maybe just my bass?
Has anyone encountered a similar problem?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Usually, when your strings die, you start to hear all hidden dead spots. In my practice cheap strings like "Musician Choice" from GC dies in 1-2 weeks, D'Addario in a month-two, DR Hi-Beams - 4 months and still sounds good.

Get good strings and you'll save a lot of money and of course you'll get a great sound
