Can different string gauges mess up the nut slot?

Sign in to disble this ad
For example if I am using .045 .065 .080 .100 and switch it to .045 .065 .085 .105 would the nut slot be too tight for the E and A string? Or if I do that vice versa would the nut slot be too loose that the string will move slightly in the nut slot?

that should be fine. Never had any problems with such gauges on my jazz.

Yes changing gauges can make a nut slot too tight or vice versa.

In this case you would most likely be fine though, as it is a very small jump in gauge.
You certainly won't have a problem with it being to lose going from 105 to 100 or 85 to 80
also worth mentioning is that most basses come stock with 45, 65, 85, 105.
So I'd bet you would probably be ok.

If not you could always shell out the doe for a good setup as your truss rod may need a tweek as well after changing gauge.
