Question Can I get some help here?

Okay, I have a problem. I just bought a set of D'Addario flats for my acoustic-electric. However, the ball end of the string, where it has the silk stuff wrapped around it, gets stuck in the bridge. The little metal ball is left about 3/4 of an inch out of the bridge.
I can't pull it through and don't want to risk trying. Leaving it there wouldn't tune well, and I'm guessing widening the holes in the bridge would have adverse effects.
Is there anything I can do to put the flats on?
I'm not much of a techie so I don't know too much about the hardware on and in basses, so if I'm wrong, or it seems that I have no idea what I'm talking about, tell me.

You can cut the silk off with a razor, it does not hurt the string.

I'd leave it hanging out an inch or so. Nah...I'd cut off the silk.

I had the same issue with rotos, this is what you do. Try twisting and getting that through, eventually it will go through, not really alot of power stress, just take your time and be patient to get them through
