It depends on the brand whether the strings will be long enough.

In my experience, "long scale" with Rotosound and Fender strings are great for thru-body while D'Addario requires "super long scale" for a Fender Jazz or P-Bass.

Yeah, D'Addario long scale aren't gonna make it through body. Found that out the hard way, haha.

In my experience, DR, Fender, Dunlop, and Ernie Ball strings will fit pretty much anything 34" through the body.

Other brands, maybe.

D'Addarios will not--need super longs.

GHS makes a + scale that always works, and sometimes the stores carry those and sometimes just the regular longs which might not fit.

It's all a trial and error mess.

On my old T 40, the black Rotosounds did not quite make it. I had only 2 wraps around the e string when I went through the body with long scale....

Hey, Anyone know if Webstrings 4-string bass strings work well with a 34" w/through-body?

also learned about D'addario not making it the hard way.

+1 you will need the extra longs if you use D'Addario, found that out the hard way as well.
