Canada's Long & McQuade Strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I find myself replacing my strings more and more often now a days for that bright new tone and have been looking at cheaper alternatives - has anyone used the Long & McQuade orange packaged strings?

The guy at the Toronto Bloor & Ossington store said that the 4 string sets might be as popular as the leading brands,..... the 5 string sets (which I'm after) don't sit on the shelf for very long either. Just looking for opinions.

Thanks,

Benner

these strings are OK. They are made by Dean Markley and feel like their standard rounds and have a tight feel to them

A friend of mine who changes strings a lot uses them now. He sounds the same as he did with other brands. He says the strings feel fine.

Reviving this 4 year old thread.

Any fellow Canucks use the L&M bass strings? (nickel). Just wondering what they were like compared to the leading name brands. Post below says they're made by Dean Markley. Is this still true?

I picked up a set of L&M nickels and have just started playing them. They do the job, but I can't say they're anything special.

Are they still made by Dean Markley? I'd like to know too.

I have a couple of sets that I got for free, but I've never opened one.

Call me a string snob if you want, but I think el primo strings are worth shelling out for. If that means I gotta for for a week without afternoon lattes, I can do that.

^ My off-topic 2 cents.

My on-topic 2 cents is, last time I got a free set, which was about a month ago, I was told that they were Dean Markley's. Whether or not the salesguy knew what he was talking about is debateable (he was a new guy, and told me that GK's were tube amps), but there you have it.

AFAIK, they're still DM made...

They threw in a set the last time I rented a bass for a couple of gigs, and they seemed fine. I can't compare them to DM or anything else, but I don't remember being disappointed by them in any way...

Fusion550 and and MB Fusion have tube preamps...he may have been a bit confused...I heard a rumor they may do a tube head...but that's a different thread!
