Can't get proper intonation on "Rotosound Jazz Bass 77" G string

I put a set of Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 flats on my Line6 Variax. Coming from a D'Addario round wound set to the flats, the E,A,D strings required a slight adjustment to correct flat intonation but the G was waaaay off. Almost half a step flat. I've moved the G saddle in increments to it's furthest extension and its' still significantly flat at the 12th fret and even seriously off at the 7th and 9th frets.

I verified that the string is seated properly on the saddle and that there are no strange contact points with other parts of the bridge. I've put strings on guitars for 30 years but I've never seen a string be so far out of intonation.

I bought this set a few years ago and this was my first try with them so they can't be returned but have others had difficulty getting the intonation correct Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 G strings?

Rotosound USA has great support

I finally became fed up with my non-intonating (is that word?) Rotosound G string and emailed Rotosound support in the US. Within an hour they responded that they would send me a replacement string.

That's pretty decent support. I told them that I'd bought the set so long ago that I'd lost the receipt... that didn't seem to be a problem.

Some companies still care about their customers.

It certainly is caused by the string. I suppose the mass is not equally spread over the length. This is a clear example of how a company should care. The age of the string doesn't matter. A happy customer is what really matters.

There could be another reason that I had never considered until recently. I have been playing for over 30 years and always did my own setups, changing strings, maintenance, etc. I recently purchased two Spectors and didn't have time to set them up so I dropped them off at a local, well known guitar tech that has been in business for 30 years. I included a set of DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams with each bass. One of the first questions the tech asked was if I always use DR strings. He told me that certain strings require different setups in order to get the correct intonation. He also said that if I change to another brand, I may have to have the basses setup again. He explained that it all depends in how the string is wound and the type of core it has. Apparently, each brand reacts to the pickups a little differently and intonation can be a problem. I had never considered this but it does make sense. I researched it further and it appears that the tech was right. By the way, thanks to the job he did, the Spectors are the best sounding and best playing basses I have ever owned and that includes vintage Fenders, Musicman and Alembics.
