Carl Robelli Acoustic, strings issue.

Having an issue fitting strings to an acoustic Carl Robelli bass.

It seems the stock strings have a smaller guitar like ball end. The pins are fluted and apparently hold the ball end approx. half way up. Instead of the (what I understand to be) standard tapered pin setup where the ball end is held under the bridge/body.

In this setup, it seems impossible to use normal bass string sized ball ends.

Anyone have any experience with these things and can offer some insight?

Searched like crazy and can't find any mention of this specifically.

I'd feed the strings in through the bottom instead of the top. Also, $10 will get you replacement bridge pins that can hold them lower.

Partially right. By feeling through the soundhole I could tell what was going on.

The ball end was sitting on the end of the pin, rather than to the side of it under the bridge how it should. A quick bend of each string before inserting it handled the situation.

My old labella tapewounds are now installed. Awesome. Thanks for the idea.

Hope this threat helps anyone else out having a similar issue.
