Carvin AC50 string change

I'm thinking of trying something other than the black nylon wound strings that came on this bass. Has anyone replaced them with flatwounds? What are your thoughts?
Thanks!

I have an AC50 & and AC50F. I haven't tried flats, but on the AC50 I have tried Thomastik Acousticore strings and also Dean Markley Phosper Bronze. While each of these strings sounded OK, I realized that the black tape wounds seemed to be the best string for the AC bass. The bronze strings were very loud and bright, but had massive string noise. The Thomastik Acousticores had a beautiful sound to them, but they were very slinky and "light" sounding.

I sure do love the AC bass though. Good luck to you.

I have thought about changing strings on my AC40, but just this evening I was playing with our band and I realized again just how great this bass sounds, and just how nice those tapewounds sound mixed in with acoustic instuments. Our guitar player told me again tonight that he thinks my AC40 is my best bass, and I know a big part of the reason he likes the sound has to do with those LaBella tapewound strings.

Anyway, that doesn't answer your question, but I guess I'm just saying I would vote against flatwounds and stick with the tapewounds if I were you.

If you do put on some flatwounds, be sure to let us know what you think.

Yea......you're probably right. I bought it used, so maybe just a set of new tapewounds. The sound is just kinda of dead now...
thanks!

Yeah, I bought mine used and I was shocked at how much better the bass sounded when I put on a fresh set of LaBella tapewounds. You do know that you can get them cheap at the Carvin.com web site, right?

Yea, the strings at Carvin are cheap! Thanks.

No neck dive for me, a liitle heavy at the top, but no real issue.
