I am thinking about putting flatwounds on my Carvin LB75, I am just really tired of the sounds of the rounds. Any suggestions on a good set of 5 string flats?
I dont know about 5. But i love my T I jazz on my fretless. i would think the 5 strings would be the same... Really nice strings... do a search in the string forum and you will find plenty of info and different opinions

My personal favorite are the LaBella Deep Talking Flats. Good tension, great feel to the strings, and not unreasonably priced. I hope you enjoy the flats, whichever you choose - they make a bass sound the way it's supposed to IMO.

I have a Carvin Bolt 5 Fretless which has had two set of Flatwound fives on them. The first was a set of D'Addario Chromes. Slightly twangy and a good feeling. The other was a GHS Precision flats set (.40-.95) with a GHS .126 Flat I ordered seperately from juststrings.com. Very old school sounding, which I may return to eventually.
TI has a five string set as well.
I have DR Flatwounds on my 5 string Precision. They have a mellow sound that is not as zingy as Chromes but not as soft as the TI flats. I have also used Dean Markley Flats which were surprisingly nice.
The problem with this kind of thing is you'll probably end up experimentng to find the right string for yourself. With flats you might have to put $100-$200 in different strings and maybe a year or two of messing around to work them in. If you invest the time and money, the reward can be sonically lucritive.

I'm a fan of my Sadowsky stainless flats (so-called Black Labels). A little brighter than some flats (stainless I presume).
Very satisfied with the sound on my Warwick Corvette $$ 5-String. Not the cheapest, but then how often do you buy strings? Think they were 55 bucks including shipping earlier this year. And I got the XL's. Suspect I should not have. They are on the boundary of a 34" scale.

I don't think you can go wrong with LaBella's Deep talkin. I have only tried the Medium's...but I just ordered some of their Jamerson Flats for the Bass I just bought. The Jamersons are almost the same gauge as the mediums though.
Cheers,
BT

I've had DR strings' flats and GHS. Both were just fine. The DR's were five stings and I liked the strings however they just didn't sound good on the bass I had them on.

I like Pyramid Golds. I have them on my 4 and 5 string. Great vintage sound. I tried Chromes on my 5 and took them off after 3 days of playing. Much to bright for my tastes.
I've got a set of TI Jazz rounds strung on my Sterling. They are very tight wrapped and pretty smooth with great tone. It's a happy medium between rounds and flats.

just got some rotosound flats and put them on a jazz bass. lik'in that jazz more than ever. i have used la'bella and ti flats on the same bass and did'nt like it as much as the rotosounds on this bass. currently playing deep talkin flats on my p-bass. dont love the bedroom sound on those, but they work wonders in a mix of music.
