Changing strings first time.. Fretless Squier Precision

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, im gonna buy strings for the first time for my Defretted Squier Precision, and i was wondering if i could haev some help since i have no clue what strings are good. So sorry to ask , but could someone help out by going to this site: Jam.se and on the left side, a bit down click on "Strängar" and it shows a list of the strings they have. could you please tell me if any of them would be nice? I dont want anything SUPER EXPENSIVE Looking to have a tad mwah and some growl if possible, also i dont know if strings can change this, but i feel that the first string sounds "bassy" , ut the other 3 feel weak soundwise, not as "fat". So if i coulg get a more filly sound on the others thatd be nice too

You need some roundwounds.

You really could help yourself a little by reading up on this forum a bit more. But to get you started...

Flatwound - less "zingy", less bright tone, may be less fingerboard wear.

Roundwound - much brighter tone, some people think they cause fingerboard wear on fretless (I don't have any problems with this myself apart from minor marks on the surface, which more or less any string will do)

Pressurewound/halfround/groundwound - compromise between flats and rounds.

If you like growl and mwah then you probably would prefer rounds or halfrounds to flats. But this also depends A LOT on your bass, its setup and your technique.

I don't know what I'd pick from the selection on the site you mentioned as they don't happen to stock my usual favourites for fretless bass. I personally like Dean Markley FretMasters on fretless (quite expensive) or Rotosound Solo Bass (cheaper, but excellent). Of the ones on the site, Warwick, DR, Ernie Ball, Thomastik and Fender are all liked by lots of players. Or maybe you can try shopping around a bit more on Google for a supplier with a wider choice? And some more reading!!
