Changing strings from one bass to another

Sign in to disble this ad
On my 5 string bass it has Sadowsky flats. For what its worth the bass was MM/J config style pups.(I know that really dont matter) I am thinking about getting a fretless 4 string bass. One thing I was wondering and I am sure it depends on the string length. I was thinking of perhaps taking the EADG off of the 5 and put them on the fretless. (if I buy one) and getting new rounds for the 5 string. Both basses are 34" scale. Just checking if that is OK. Thanks

as long as they have the same headstock or tuner key position, if not.....it could be harder than just switching......but you can do it, "were all in this together"

Shouldn't be a problem. I've got a set of strings that are currently on their third different bass.

If both basses are the same scale and have the same tuner configuration and assuming the strings weren't trimmed dratically to make them fit the first bass, you shouldn't have a problem at all. But wouldn't it be easier just to buy a new set of strings for the new bass? Strings are relatively cheap compared to other equipment.

The strings on the 5 string are about 2 monts old and I really was thinking that I wanted to go to rounds. I defiently are putting flats on the fretless. The strings on the 5 string are Sadowsky flats which are hard are around $45. However after playing the 5 string this morning I think for now I will probably keep them on there. I play at chrcuh thru a Bassman 200 and this was the first time I played the 5 string thru it and it sounded real well. I will probably just order the same strings (4 string version) when I get a fretless.

Thanks

Steve
