cheap piano-like strings

I would like to try a string with the piano-like clarity and growl people speak of. I don't wanna spend a lot of money so keep it as cheap as possible. I'm also very picky about consistence throughout each string.

With your caveat of "as cheap as possible," I'm not sure how successful you'll be in your quest. When you're ready to spend the money, Circle K Strings (specifically their balanced sets) are probably the best you'll find for what you want.

Try D'addario Pro Steels. I used them on my Carvins, and they definitely fit the bill of "piano like tone".
