Cheap Roundwound Lover

Food for debate is all.... Have tried tons of strings through time and always come back to the cheapo rounds. I love the feel over flats any day and to my ears I prefer rounds.
I tried being one of the "converts" several times, but doesn't cut it for me. I prefer the bright piano tones for sure. I tried the Rotos back in the day and always found a dead string or two in the packs. Got tired of taking them back. Tried Blue Steels, but had to give up strings for food. When you get into the $60 plus brands I said "crap on it". I also break strings due to my attack and after a few days in the sweat lodge of a jam room, they all go dead no matter what. i rehearse in an air conditioned room in the Southern US (Charlotte, NC) and it gets to 85 degrees with all the tube amps going. SO, i always go back the budget strings and I cannot tell much difference. Just more elitism to me. I will do a plug for "Musician's Gear" Brand offered by Musicians Exchange online--THANK YOU and keep making 'em. I also bought a bazillion of the Sam Ash closeouts that you guys tipped me off on here--THANKS again. They sound well worth it. Now all you flat converts, please keep buying them so rounds will drop in price even more!

Because of monetary concerns, I was forced to get some cheapo Hartke strings, and although they work well for the cost, they are way too bright for my taste. I like a nice, fat, round sound for my money. Unfortunately, I'm currently on a very tight budget, so I had to get the cheapest strings I could find. They serve that purpose well, but if I had the the extra cash, I'd get something a little pricier to get my sound. just my $.02

I gotta agree with Greevus...I think just about every Nickel Plated Roundwound sounds about the same to me. I love a broken in Nickel Roundwound set. I use Flatwounds too..but find the rounds work best in most settings..even for old Classic R&B. If I'm playing nothing but Chicago Blues,I'll use the Flats. I think alot of these "Flatwound Converts" are are fooling themselfs by thinking they have more to offer the Rhythm Section by using flatwound strings..I think it's rubish, but to each his own.

Cool man, good for you.

Personally, I love my Rotos... the RN66LD's are my favorite.

it would be fun to blindfold the players and restring with different ones and find out "cold" which opinions were accurate. i find a lot of elitism with brand loyalty across the board, not just with musical gear. i also love to debate, so i like to instigate. i can go through a set of strings quicker than the average player too, so that encourages the cheapos. i
