choosing strings to fit the song...

Sign in to disble this ad
i've got some recording coming up and i'm trying to decide if i should string my p-bass with flats or rounds. i have flats on there now. the kind of music would be something like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFcJI6mIHu4

except i usually don't play with a pick. it seems like in practice the flats (chromes) sound great but on the recording of practice on my tascam digital recorder of the practice the bass gets lost in the mix. i don't want to put too much weight on a crappy recording but i'm wondering if rounds would be better.

Rounds would be more noticeable in the mix.

If you normally play with Flats, I'd stay in that direction.

Don't put so much credit on that band recording. In a real recording situation, you'll be better isolated, and able to better achieve a tone that's going to sit well in the mix. EQ'ing/level adjustments/compression can all then be applied to help compensate for most discrepancies.
