In a Bass Player interview a few years ago it said he uses D'Addario XL nickels (.050) on his Precision Basses. I'm not sure if that's still the case. I noticed recently that he strings his G on his sunburst P on the opposite side of the post. . .

thanks for the info..I've been playing jamerson flats on my old p-bass for a couple years and am thinking about getting something a tad brighter/aggressive, but still old school sounding. Maybe I'll give the D'Addario XL nickels a try.

Oh yeah, I found this info on chris wood as well:

They're good strings IMO. I use the .045 set. Good tension, smooth feel, bright but not too bright. CW has been getting more aggressive P-bass sounds in the past couple of years. On the new album with Scofield it's almost grind-y at points. It sounds like a combination of roundwounds, amp distortion, and running the tone control on his P almost wide open. Plus you can tell he really digs in at times. Chris Wood is my hero.
