I'm interested in purchasing these for 4 string fretless and am asking for recommendations as to which gauge to get. According to D'addario's website, the Chromes are available in the following gauges: 40-95, 40-100, 45-100, and 50-105. I know it's subjective but which of the sets available would produce the most mwah and sound the best.

I dunno re mwah sound, but I'm loving the light- 40-95's & i've been a rounds user for most of my 30 yrs playing!

i play in drop c, and the 50-105's are the best for that, but if you are plaing in standard one of the lighter gauges will work fine.

You'll get more mwah from the lighter sets. I would suggest one of the first 2 sets.

It's more for feel than sound. Yeah, the thicker gauges will have more pronounced harmonics and overtones in the same tuning (more tension, therefore less fundamental note), but you basically want to go with whatever gauge you're comfortable with on rounds, or maybe a gauge lighter than that to compensate for the higher tension with flats.

I have the chromes, dunno which gauge, but the E-string is very floppy in comparison to the others. I would make sure you get a set with a nice thick E string, if I were you.
