Chromes + BAII

I just tried some Chromes on my bass with a Badass II and the silk windings before the ball end wouldn't fit through the bridge. Is this a common occurrence with these bridges and .105 gauge chromes or did I just get a bad set?

I had the same problem with my string through American standard. I think D'addario just puts wayyyyy too much silk on those strings.

The silk isn't entirely necessary. Just scrape it off - that's what I had to do to get the DA Chrome .132 to fit through my bridge last night.

I can do that without destroying the integrity of the string?

Yes. The silk is there to protect your hardware - it does nothing for the string's construction.

had the same problem yesterday on my P-Bass (actually, no Badass Bridge) didn's scrap off the silk, just took my other P-Bass...hehe :-).
So, my '69 stays with 5year old LaBella DT's, and my RI'57 with the new Chromes, just for tryin' out, and I LOVE 'em! A completly different beast than the LaBellas, I hope they don't loose the top-end-zzzing. these strings are so cool, I get a killer old school slap tone out of the P-Bass. highly recommended!

I enlarged the E and A string anchor holes on a few BAIIs slightly to accomodate thicker strings, in those cases Labella tapewounds.

Oh wow, sorry I didn't follow up on this earlier. I scraped the silk off of my strings and they fit and sound great. Thanks for the help everyone.

You can just burn it off. I had a set of d'Addos with the silk sitting on the saddles. So I took a lighter and set fire to it. Take care, fire can really hurt you........
