Chromes on a mahogany bass?

I've got an Ibanez BTB510E that has a mahogany body and Bartolini pickups/electronics. The bass has a dark/deep sound and I think the mahogany body is the reason. I want to use flats but I want a fairly lively sound. Would D'Addario Chromes work for me?

Anybody here using Chromes on their mahogany bass?

I've owned 3 Thunderbirds, all strung with Chromes. Sounded great.
